Stats:

age: 30 weeks
weight: 33.5 pounds

We had extra dogs this week.

On Tuesday S_ brought home three rescue dogs in transit to Carbondale. They stayed overnight and were picked up at about 2:30 the next afternoon for the next, and last, leg of their journey.

The three of them were good dogs though all were very nervous and hyper from traveling. By the next morning they had all calmed down and were playing with eachother as well as with my dogs. Cheekey was more fearful than theother two and acted somewhat aggressive at first but with just a few minutes of calm, unforced attention she too joined in the fray. By the end of her stay she turned out to be quite affectionate and would hang out with her paw on my leg looking up at me.

None of them were housebroken, all were scared and filthy and our house is not puppy-proof. With all of that, meeting their previous transport in Denver, and a total of five dogs it was quite the day. We got them all bathed, calmed down and introduced to our pups.

Lila was in heaven. She played and played. It was good to see that was well socialized even when her own house was invaded by strange dogs. Ipo, always the hero, also remaned equanimious and provided a calming influence.

A Smiling Lila

Over the last two or three weeks Lila has learned to smile. At first she woul only smile outside when playing with her soccer ball. Now she smiles quite a lot. She sits on the stairway and grins at us, she smile when we play ball in the house, she smiles when she comes in from the yard and when she approches us for attention. It's great to see her capacity for social interaction growing almost daily at this point. She no longer prefers to play alone. She brings us her most coveted toys and tries to engage us in the play.
