Stats:Age: 30 to 31 weeks (7 months) A trip to Santa Fe, NM We took a vacation together. Aside from some hotel troubles we all had a great time. It was cold, cold, cold in New Mexico. Santa Fe is perhaps even more dog-friendly a town than Boulder and we had not trouble taking the two pups everywhere you could reasonable expect to. National parks and monuments are of course a problem so it was not possible to take them into Bandoleer. We also couldn't easily take them into the pueblos, but only because the village dogs raised a ruckus. We were there for the Turtle Dance and didn't want to disturb everyone else so we kept them in the car with just a couple of restroom breaks. Other than that they were able to walk around town, stay in motels and generally have a good time. One of the highlights as far the dogs were concerned was the hike into White Rock Canyon. Ipo and Lila stuck together and had great fun scrambling over rocks, smelling everything, rolling in the snow, and wading in the water. Lila learned to cross a stream via log bridge and stepping-stones. This scared her the first time but on the way back she just went bounding across without giving it a second thought. The whole trip was a learning and a bonding experience for her. She continues to get more affectionate and more able to sit quietly with us and with Ipo. Riding in the car is not a problem as she likes having us all together.
I highly recommend traveling with your dog. It has always worked out so that they are more comfortable and confident about being part of the family. It helps them learn how to be a good family member, making life easier and more fun for all. |
